Strawberries

Let me start off by saying we are not very consistent gardeners.  However, let me also add - we're trying every year to improve!  We're also trying to teach Samantha the fun and importance of learning to grow food.  We have many, many strawberry plants in our back yard and though we lose lots of berries to bugs and such, we still get a pretty good haul.

Today, Samantha and I went berry picking.  In the past, Samantha hasn't really ever favored strawberries.  I've given her pieces of store bought strawberries as I'm cleaning them, but she would just spit them out onto the floor.  Maybe her palate is just that sophisticated that she prefers the homegrown, organic variety because she couldn't get enough of the berries from our back yard!  It was all I could do to convince her that we should wash the berries first and even then, a couple of them made it into her mouth before I even knew she had picked them!

Some of the berries did indeed make it into the house though.  We even had enough to snitch a few more, save some for Ed, and combine the rest with some raspberries for jam!

Showing off her berry-picking prowess
